Propositions for your consideration: instructions

Posted by ed folsom on October 23, 2009

As a next step in our committee’s work, SC221 leadership, in consultation with working group chairs, decided it would be useful to capture the progress of the working groups in the form of preliminary conclusions, for the review and consideration of the committee as a whole.

The purpose of these preliminary conclusions is to identify where consensus does or does not exist. Please review these propositions and put them into one of the following buckets- First, those propositions that you agree with; second, those that you agree with, but may require more supporting data or evidence to make the case; and third, those propositions where you believe there remains an active, legitimate difference of opinion that can and should be resolved.

A further objective of this methodology is to archive committee participant’s positions on these important issues. If a committee participant has a disagreement on one or more of the committee’s preliminary or final conclusions, it is incumbent on that participant to clearly state his or her case in writing, provide supporting documentation for that view, and give other committee participants the opportunity to read, consider and respond to those arguments. This tool will achieve that objective.

INSTRUCTIONS: please comment on each proposition. Your comments are welcome and needed. If you have a disagreement, please be as specific as possible and include any available supporting documentation to support your view. Provide an alternative solution or proposal if appropriate.

For the sake of simplicity and clarity, we will make separate posts for each proposition. Based on inputs from committee participants, we may modify the proposition. We will make note of the current and previous proposition by use a numbering system: 1.0, 1.1, etc

Again, committee participant comments are very important. Let’s use this tool to try to refine our committee’s work. This will save us time at the next plenary meeting in March, and will focus our discussions.

Ed and Rick
